DJ Zinc - Interview & Free Crack House Mix

DJ Zinc is a legendary drum and bass producer responsible for the all time Jungle Drum & Bass anthem Super Sharp Shooter. He is also responsible for the massive drum and bass remix of the Fugees "Ready or Not". On top of these anthems he has also produced classics such as Ska, Casino Royale and the massive Creeper!

However it looks as though the legendary producer has turned his back on the genre and is now concentrating on producing House, or more specifically "Crack House". Quite frankly here at Underground Knowledge we think that some of his new beats sound absolutely large we have always loved his rolling style and it looks like he has transferred his winning formula to the House genre! However it is a controversial move and many people feel that his new material resembles hardcore breaks as opposed to 4/4 house music. If you are wondering what this new style sounds like take a look at the video below which is the massive anthem "Killa Sound" from Zinc's new "Crack House" EP!

Most fans of electronic music however will be aware that this isn't the first time that DJ Zinc has ventured into different genre's, in the late nineties & early naughties he produced some massive UK Garage and breakbeat tunes. The biggest tune released at this time was the seminal 138 Trek, which was hammered on the UK Garage circuit by the likes of DJ EZ, Matt Jam Lamont and everyone else! He has now updated this classic in the form of "128 Trek" which features on the new EP. We really like the new version which stays faithful to the original whilst still updating it and adding new elements. Have a look at the video below and judge for yourself! P.S. To truly hear the difference between the new version and the original you need to play this through speakers at a high volume!!!

Click on the link below to read an excellent Guardian interview with DJ Zinc in which he discusses his switch to producing Crack House, how the name came about and his new album the "Crack House EP". To get a taste of what DJ Zinc is now producing and what the new "Crack House" genre is all about click on the link at the bottom of the post to get a FREE DJ Zinc Crack House Mix!

Todd Edwards - Full On Vol 1 and Full On Vol 2 In Stock! Plus an interview with the man himself!

It has been another busy weekend here at Underground Knowledge. We have finally got through the massive amount of old skool UK Garage vinyl's that we purchased a few months ago and they have been flying out of our discogs shop! There are still hundreds of old skool UK Garage vinyl's left in the shop including loads of pieces from 1997 onwards from artists such as MJ Cole, Anthill Mob, Donna Deep, Industry Standard, DJ Deller, Artful Dodger and many many more! We won't be listing any new UK Garage stuff for the next couple of weeks because we are now focusing on uploading the collection 1,000 drum and bass vinyl's that we recently purchased. So you better grab anything that you want quickly before it goes as we can't guarantee that we will have it in stock again any time soon!

At the weekend we uploaded a huge amount of Todd Edwards vinyl to the shop. Todd Edwards is a legend in the UK Garage scene where is also know as Todd "The God" Edwards! From classic releases on the irecords label such as Saved My Life, Run It By Me feat Damon Trueitt, Shut The Door and Odyssey to the seminal Full On Vol 1 and Full On Vol 3 albums he has always been a true innovator. His trademark style of chopping up vocals has led to him being commissioned for some of the most memorable UK Garage remixes ever produced including his massive remix of Sound of One - As I Am and Alabama Blues by St Germain. Whilst trawling the interent we came across a very rare interview with the man himself in the excellent Stylus magazine which proves to be very interesting reading. A link to the interview can be found at the bottom of this post.

We currently have the following classic Todd Edwards vinyl in our discogs shop, just type Todd Edwards into the search box or click the Todd Edwards Vinyl's hyperlink above.

Metalheadz Last Night @ Blue Note Club, Goldie B2B Randall, MC Flux & MC Fats Free Mix CD

Another day and another link to a free mix CD. However this is no ordinary mix CD, this is a Metalheadz mix CD! The Metalheadz label is absolutely legendary within the Drum & Bass scene and with just about everyone else who knows about UK electronic underground music. Metalheadz's history stretches right back to Goldie's Terminator tune on Reinforced right through to the Metalheadz Platinum Breakz series and the Commix Call To Mind album1

Apart from releasing some of the most seminal Jungle and Drum and Bass tunes of all time and releasing the genre defining Metalheadz Platinum series of CD's and Vinyl's they were also responsible for hosting the groundbreaking Metalheadz nights at the Blue Note club in London. These nights were always full to capacity and the music played by the likes of Goldie, Doc Scott, Kemistry and Storm, Grooverider and the rest of the crew was always a cut above everything else being played in the drum and bass scene at the time. These nights truly pushed the scene forward and it is fair to say that the drum and bass scene would not be as popular as it is today and wouldn't have acheived or enjoyed such longevity without Goldie & Metalheadz!

To see what all the fuss was about click the link below to listen to Goldie B2B with Randall & MC Flux & MC Fats recorded live on the last night at the legendary Metalheadz Sunday Sessions at the Blue Note club, the set is truly awesome! You can stream the set and also download to listen to later. This really should be in everyone's collection!

UK Funky Is Dead, Long Live UK Funky!

Now, we realise that this is a bit of a controversial headline but here at Underground Knowledge we like to keep up to date with all the latest underground music. Some people cannot stand music being put into little boxes with different names but it is a reality that this is partly what keeps music fresh. Anyone who has listened to electronic music for any length of time will understand that basically there are a number of core genre's, such as House and Drum and Bass and everything thing else is just a variation on these core genre's. Last year's big underground sound was "bassline" or "bassline house" it was all over Ayia Napa, the internet, the pirates and even the charts! Now as everyone knows bassline is dead and the big new genre is "UK Funky" with anthems like DJ NG's "Tell Me" and the massive anthem "In The Morning" by Fuzzy Logik being smashed by everyone.

However it looks like after only one year of being in the spolight the UK Funky movement is already over! We've come across a wicked article in the excellent XLR8R magazine with interviews with some of the biggest producers in UK Funky such as Geeneus, Roaka and Cooly G. These producers are concentrating on making a new sound which is a cross between Dubstep and UK Funky which Geeneus has coined "Funkstep". to hear what this sound is all about have a look at the video below or tune into leading London pirate station RINSE FM where you can hear the likes of Scratcha DVA and Geeneus dropping these new beats in their sets.

The emphasis of the article is on the changing and morphing sounds of UK Funky. It is a very interesting read and has been well researched with interviews with all of the major players in the UK Funky scene.
